Privacy policy

Aussie App Shelf (android.com.au) is a guide to Australian apps for travellers and new migrants. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, and we respect the rights of visitors from the European Union and United Kingdom under the GDPR.
What we collect
Analytics (only with your consent): if you click Accept on the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to measure how the site is used. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the website that sent you here, your device and browser type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. We don’t use it to identify you personally, and we don’t use advertising features.
The suggestion form: if you suggest an app, we receive the app name and any message you write. Your email address is optional. If you give it, we use it only to reply to you about your suggestion.
Server logs: our hosting provider, Netlify, automatically records basic technical information such as IP addresses and the time of each request, to run the site and keep it secure.
Cookies and similar storage
Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID> on your device, but only after you accept. If you decline, Google Analytics does not load at all.
The site also saves your language choice and your cookie choice in your browser’s local storage. This information stays on your device and isn’t sent to us.
Who we share information with
We use Google (for analytics) and Netlify (for hosting and for receiving form submissions). Both may store and process information outside Australia, including in the United States. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics deletes its data automatically at the end of the retention period set in our account, which is no longer than 14 months. We keep suggestion form messages only as long as we need them to review your suggestion and reply.
Your choices and rights
You can change your cookie choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. Send your request through the suggestion form on our home page and include your email address so we can reply. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au), or to your local data protection authority if you live in the EU or UK.
Links to other sites
Our download buttons take you to Google Play, and some pages link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we don’t control.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
